WBCS Syllabus for Prelims and Mains 2019-2020 and Detailed Analysis

West Bengal Civil Service is popularly known as W.B.C.S. is conducted by Public Service Commission of West Bengal every year. We will here give you a detailed analysis of WBCS syllabus for prelims and mains. It will be very helpful for WBCS 2019. The application process starts in around October to November. The preliminary exam held between last week of January to 2nd week of February. The main exam organized between July to September  It is consist of three parts; preliminary exam, main exam, and a personality test. For preliminary exams, you need to prepare eight sections and each section of 25 marks. So, the total marks in the preliminary exam of 200 marks in two and a half hours (2 hours and 30 minutes). There is no sectional cut off. Following the trends of previous years cut off history, it is around 50 to 55 percent which is 100 to 110. It can be said that the safe zone is 120 marks. The questions paper of preliminary will be in bilingual (English and Bengali) but the main exam will be in English language only. The preliminary exam is organized in various district of West Bengal. The mains exam will be held only in Kolkata. The exam is also categorized in Group A, B, C, and D. 
In the beginning, we will discuss the preliminary exam but our ultimate goal should be WBCS main and interview as well from the day one of our preparation.

WBCS Preliminary Exams:

The areas which you need to cover in the preliminary exams are discussed below. It can be broadly categorized into General KnowledgeEnglishGeneral Mental Ability and Current Events.

  2. Indian National Movement
  3. Indian Geography with Special Reference to West Bengal
  4. General Science
  5. Indian Polity and Economy
  6. English
  7. General Mental Ability
  8. Current Events of National and International Importance

Note: 25 marks in each section so, in total 25*8= 200 marks. There is no sectional cut off and this only qualifying for the WBCS Main Exam in nature.
